What makes a good Soho Farmhouse alternative?
Before we get started, I think it’s helpful to think about what makes Soho Farmhouse so great, so we know what we’re looking for in a substitute.
With its huge notoriety, it’d be easy to think that Soho Farmhouse is overhyped. But in my opinion, it truly is one of the best places to stay in the UK. And there’s a number of things that contribute to that:
- Unrivaled service – nothing’s too much trouble when you’re staying at Soho Farmhouse. The staff go above and beyond to make your stay special
- Brilliant food – there’s 5 restaurants onsite serving everything from Japanese food to British classics, so you’re bound to find something you love
- Amenities and activities – across the 100 acre estate there’s an indoor-outdoor pool, gym, spa, cinema and endless activities such as horse-riding, tennis and clay pigeon shooting
- Location – its countryside dwelling in The Cotswolds means complete peace, no traffic noise, and a chance to truly switch off
- Design – the interiors at Soho Farmhouse are some of my favourites of any hotel I’ve stayed in. Bold, clashing prints are blended with reclaimed traditional features to create a cosy, rustic feel
Luckily, the UK’s full of stunning staycations, and everything in this guide has a quality that make them great alternatives to Soho Farmhouse.
1. The Fish Hotel
⭐RATING: 8.9/10 | ? WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL? A countryside location with luxury shepherds huts | VIEW ON BOOKING.COM
If you’re drawn to Soho Farmhouse’s leafy location in the heart of The Cotswolds, then The Fish is the ideal alternative.
It’s just 10-minutes from the quaint village of Broadway, and its hideaway huts are a great option if you’re looking for something similar to The Piglets at Soho Farmhouse.
Complete with double bed, wood burner and separate lounge area, plus the added bonus of a private hot tub and rolltop tub you don’t get at Farmhouse.
You’ll also have access to the incredible seafood restaurant, Hook, as well as a brilliant room service menu if you just want to relax.
The Fish is part of the Farncombe Estate, where you’ll find two other hotels, Dormy House and Foxhill Manor. Guests at The Fish can use the stunning spa at Dormy House for an additional cost.
If you’re looking for the perfect Soho Farmhouse alternative, look no further than The Fish.
2. Artist Residence Oxfordshire
⭐RATING: 8.9/10 | ? WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL? Rustic rooms and an excellent food menu | VIEW ON BOOKING.COM
The Artist Residence hotels are amongst my go-to for a break in the UK. The food is excellent, they’re well-located, and all of the hotels feature beautiful pieces of art and exceptional design.
Their Oxfordshire branch is the only one not in a city, located just outside of The Cotswolds. So it’s the perfect alternative to Soho Farmhouse as you’ll get the same feeling of being in the middle of nature.
The rustic village pub it calls home gives a similar vibe to Soho Farmhouse. A traditional pub with rooms, grab a board game and curl up by the fireplace, before retiring to one of the 8 bedrooms above.
I personally think the food here is better than Soho Farmhouse, it’s pub classics with a twist, done to a really high standard.
If you’re looking for something a bit different, there’s even a shepherd’s hut you can stay in at the bottom of the garden.
3. Mollie’s Motel
⭐RATING: 8.9/10 | ? WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL? It’s from the same people as Soho Farmhouse | VIEW ON BOOKING.COM
Whilst this roadside hotel might seem worlds away from the rural location of Soho Farmhouse, Mollie’s Motel is actually from the Soho House group.
So you can expect design-led bedrooms, familiar Cowshed toiletries, and good food at the heart of your stay. It’s the perfect place to get a slice of the Soho House experience, without breaking the bank.
There’s two locations in Bristol and Oxfordshire, and whilst they’re pretty similar in style, the Oxfordshire outpost is a great Soho Farmhouse alternative due to its proximity to The Cotswolds.
Mollie’s is one of my favourite places to stay in the UK, you can get a room here for £60 a night but there’s absolutely no compromise on style or substance.
4. The Bear Inn Hodnet
⭐RATING: 8.9/10 | ? WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL? Beautiful, individually designed bedrooms | VIEW ON BOOKING.COM
If you want to re-create the cosy feel you get from a stay at Soho Farmhouse, The Bear Inn is the perfect alternative.
It opened its doors in summer last year after a stunning renovation of a former 16th-century coaching inn.
There’s 12 individually designed rooms featuring floral headboards, colourful interiors and original artwork.
The Rowan Suite is the showstopper, spread over two floors and complete with a roll-top bathtub. Cozy up in the pub downstairs with a romantic meal for two. The menu focuses on British food, with local Shropshire beer on tap.
5. The Pig in the Wall
⭐RATING: 8.9/10 | ? WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL? A focus on locally sourced, high quality food | VIEW ON BOOKING.COM
These country-house hotels are a great alternative to Soho Farmhouse.
There’s seven to choose from across the UK, including outposts in Bath, The New Forest and Devon.
The Pig places food at the heart of the hotel – their 25-mile menu means pretty much everything is sourced locally.
So you can expect fresh, seasonal ingredients and hearty meals. Plus, most of their hotels have kitchen gardens – so you can see exactly where your dinner’s grown.
The bedrooms range from cosy ‘snug rooms’ to sprawling cabins – so theres lots of choice no matter your budget.
6. Birch Community
⭐RATING: 8.9/10 | ? WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL? An endless choice of activities | VIEW ON BOOKING.COM
If it’s the endless activities that draw you to Soho Farmhouse, Birch is a brilliant alternative.
It’s just an hour from Central London but feels as though you’re in the middle of nowhere.
You can book on to just about anything, from beekeeping courses to deep house yoga (who knew that was a thing?). There’s a games room, a deckchair-filled cinema and 3 bars to keep you entertained from day to night.
There’s also a beautiful added a pastel-coloured lido, complete with Mirabeau-wine bar, which is a great alternative to the pool at Soho Farmhouse.
There’s also a wellness space with a gym, sauna and treatment rooms. Book yourself in for a massage or head to the studio for a class.
And if all you fancy doing is lying in a hammock with a good book, you can do that too. Birch is set amongst 55 acres so you’re bound to find a quiet corner to escape to.
7. The Bradley Hare
⭐RATING: 8.9/10 | ? WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL? Similar interiors to Soho House |

If you’re a fan of the the infamous Soho House style (and who wouldn’t be), The Bradley Hare is a great alternative. James Thurstan Waterworth, who previously looked after European design at Soho House, is behind the look of this traditional village pub.
Each of the 12 bedrooms feature a mix of antique pieces and modern touches. Expect freestanding tubs, nook beds and clashing prints.
Set within the quaint village of Maiden Bradley, you’re in the heart of an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty, so pack your walking boots and get exploring.
If you prefer retail therapy and local food, it’s only a short drive from the idyllic Somerset towns of Frome, Wells and Bruton.
8. Cabu Cabins
⭐RATING: 8.9/10 | ? WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL? Idyllic locations and things to do |

CABU Cabins offer a brilliant alternative to Soho Farmhouse in coastal Kent or rural Ireland.
Their cosy cabins immerse you in nature but still retain a luxury feel. Their Kent location boasts an outdoor pool, hot tubs and a sauna, whilst in Ireland you’re on the stunning Lough Oughter – Ireland’s answer to the Lake District.
The activities on offer here rival Soho Farmhouse – there’s bikes, water sports, boating, golf, wine tours, and plenty of walks, so you’re bound to find something to keep you entertained.
And if you all you want to do is relax, there’s plenty of space to cosy up with a good book.
