Hello Jess!
Loving your blog. My husband and I have just moved to Barcelona and wondered if you had any tips on:
Hidden gem restaurants, bars and tapas bars
Your favourite rooftop bars. We recently went to the one at The Majestic Hotel and the views were amazingThank you so much.

Hi Elizabeth,
That’s so exciting, welcome 🙂
My favourite restaurant is Berbena, it’s difficult to get a reservation but it’s such good food and reasonably priced.
Rooftop bars – I love Tope at The Hoxton, Terraza de Vivi at the top of the Kimpton and Motel One next to Ciutadella Parc 🙂

Hi Jess
Thank you for your wonderful blog and information. I am a lover of all things gardens, cottages, dogs, Cotswalds, stone, quaint and off the beaten path low to no tourists if at all possible. With that I’m trying to time a visit in May when the iris and peonies are blooming yet dodge some of the masses of touristas. Is there any way, any village, any place to accomplish this yet capture the Cotswalds in its finest. 🙂
All the best,
Carlye Cook

Hi Carlye,
Unfortunately with the Cotswolds being so beautiful, the villages are often very busy (especially in summer). Avoid places like Castle Combe and Bibury as they’re the busiest, I’d try Kingham and Langford (both have great pubs) but are much smaller

Hola Jess,
I enjoy your web site very much, so much information for someone like me who loves to travel and book their own vacations. I took you advice and just booked a 5 night stay in Barcelona with Praktik Essens hotel in March 2024. They were super nice on the phone when I made reservations and gave me a discount. Your advice was extremely helpful. I will love the convenience of the airport shuttle to and from the hotel. I booked the terrace and I can’t wait to enjoy the hotel.
Like you, my first big international trip alone was a month in Australia to scuba dive the Barrier Reef. Also, like you when I look back on my life, I have no regrets at all of everything I have accomplished. Muchos Gracias for your blog and web site, and I hope you always stay beautiful.-
Thanks for your lovely comment Jeffrey, I hope you enjoy Barcelona and the hotel 🙂

Hi Jess,
I read your article about Soho House, and I’m thinking of joining (as a Dutch living in Zurich).
With regards to referrals, how can I go about that to increase my chances? How did you do it?Kind regards,
Ron-
Hi Ron,
I knew people who were already members which helped, do you know anyone that’s already a member?

Hi Rachel, we got a taxi to the beach club, I’d recommend booking with a local company as Ubers can be expensive though. Have a lovely time!

How much would an Uber be from Colombo Airport to Kandy?
-
It’s showing as £35 on the Uber app

Hi Jess, we (the three of us – two adults and a 16-year-old boy who loves taking photos) have been inspired by your blog post (and Instagram posts) to break away from the package holiday to travel to the Greek islands for a week this summer, we will be flying in and out of Santorini, so expect to stay there for two to three nights, but then we are umming and uring between Paros and Milos and wonder if you could give me the benefit of your experience. Which would be best to compliment Santorini? I do hope that you are able to respond to this. Many thanks, Sam

Hi Sam, that’s so lovely to hear, thank you for taking the time to let me know! I’d choose Milos over Paros, there’s lots of beautiful beaches and it will feel like a bit of a contrast from Santorini, and if your son loves taking pictures he’ll be in his element – get to Sarakiniko early (the beach that looks like the moon) he’ll get some great shots 🙂

Hi! My husband and I live in Los Angeles are planning a trip to Spain (Barcelona, Madrid and we wanted to do a couple days someone in Costa Brava.) your blog convinced us to do Cadaques and we’re super excited. We travel a decent amount and I’m always looking for a travel blogger who seems to have a similar travel style and interests to me and I think you’re the first person I found who seems to fit the bill! Just wanted to tell you that and say thanks- you seem cool and authentic. Also, any neighborhood/hotel to recommend for Barcelona? We want to stay somewhere central but also not super crowded/touristy/loud. Thanks!
-
Hey Shayna,
I can’t tell you how emotional it made me to read your comment, it means a lot to me that you’ve trusted me to book Cadaques – you won’t regret it!
I’d avoid El Born (great for a night out but a nightmare to stay in – it’s loud and the roads are quite narrow so there’s less light inside the buildings) and also Raval. Try Eixample – Casa Bonay is a really cool hotel with a great rooftop, or The Hoxton in Poblenou – has a pool and an amazing rooftop with views of the Sagrada (great for sunset). It’s a little further out but it’s also a busy neighbourhood with lots of bars and restaurants (masa vins is one of my favourite wine bars in the city), and the metro is great so it’s really easy to get around.
-
Thank you! Is there a specific beach near Cadques you’d recommend that would be a good place to hang out for half a day? It looks like the beaches there are pretty but don’t really have sand and don’t seem super inviting to hang/go in the water. We’re more into a quiet, pretty beach than a sceney beach club vibe. Thank you!
