The Midland
The Midland is one of Manchester’s most iconic hotels, being a part of the city for over 120 years. Fortunately, it looks very different now from how it did when it first arrived on the scene. In 2020, it underwent an extensive £14 million refurbishment and its 312 bedrooms now boast a luxurious neutral design. The refurbishment also extended to the Rena Spa – which is home to a sauna, steam room, pool and relaxation areas. You can choose from a variety of treatments, including massages, facials, reflexology and much more. So it’s the perfect option for hotels in Manchester for couples.
On-site restaurant The French is headed up by chef Adam Reid, who has won 4 AA Rosettes since joining. The menu changes daily, using fresh, local ingredients. For a more relaxed option, Mount Street is the perfect spot – serving British classics including burgers, pies, and beef wellington. The Midland is also home to the only location in Manchester designed specifically for afternoon tea. The Tea Room at The Midland holds beautiful views over St.Peter’s Square. Finally, there’s The Midland Lounge, the stylish bar with an excellent selection of cocktails, platters and bar snacks. There’s also an extensive, and equally delicious room service menu, something that I find is often lacking in hotels.

Whitworth Locke
Locke is one of my favourite places to stay in the UK, with locations in some of my favourite cities. They’re design-led, and the perfect blend between a hotel room and serviced apartment. The interiors are seriously stunning) with bedrooms much larger than the average. I checked into Whitworth Locke, their Manchester outpost, last year and it didn’t disappoint. It’s set within a 19th-century cotton factory, and the interiors are beautiful. The conservatory bar is the perfect place to grab a few drinks before heading out, and Peru Perdu serves up an all-day Peruvian menu.
There’s plenty of room types to choose from, starting from just £88 a night for a city studio. And the benefits of staying in an apartment-style room is that you get all the extras you wouldn’t find in a hotel. MOTLEY is on the on-site restaurant and bar area, serving simple, classic dishes alongside a selection of draft beers from local breweries.
